The Story of Qu Yuan's Suicide by Drowning

Qu Yuan was a famous poet and minister in ancient China. He was deeply devoted to his country and people. However, he became a victim of political intrigue and was exiled from his homeland. During his exile, he wrote many famous poems expressing his love for his country and his sadness at being separated from it.

One day, Qu Yuan received news that his homeland had been invaded by a neighboring state. Devastated by the news, he decided to show his loyalty and love for his country by committing suicide. He wrote one last poem, which is now known as 'Lament for Ying' and drowned himself in the Miluo River.

The people of his homeland were deeply moved by his sacrifice and began a tradition of throwing rice dumplings, called zongzi, into the river to feed the fish and prevent them from eating Qu Yuan's body. This tradition is still observed today during the annual Dragon Boat Festival.
