Stephen Hawking, a world famous British physicist, will write a children's book with his daughter. Hawking said the book will be "a bit like Harry Potter" but without the magic. "It explains the wonders of the universe(宇宙)," said Hawking, while he was on a visit to Hong Kong last week.
Hawking, 64, is probably the world's most famous scientist after Albert Einstein. He is an expert on black holes. He has put his whole life into digging into the beginning (and the end) of the universe.
"My goal is simple," Hawking once said. "It is to completely understand the universe, why it is as it is and why it is there at all."
Hawking has a bad illness that stops him from moving or talking. For a period of time, he had no way to communicate except by blinking(眨眼).
Now he sits on a wheelchair with a computer by his side. To communicate, he moves two fingers to control the computer's mouse. He selects his words from the screen, which are then spoken by a voice synthesizer(音响合成器).
"I have had the disease for most of my life," Hawking once said. "Yet it has not stopped me from being successful at my work."
Although Hawking is such a disabled man, he made great achievements. He has received many awards and prizes for his work over the years. This includes winning the Albert Einstein Award. It is the highest achievement in theoretical physics(理论物理).

She was an old friend to the Chinese, and she was made in Sweden. In the 18th century, a big wooden sailing ship called the Gotheborg traveled a long distance to trade with China.
Through her three journeys, "the Silk Road of the Sea" between China and Sweden was made and the two peoples began to learn more about each other.
Now, 260 years later, the Gotheborg is on her way to China again.
A replica(复制品) of the ship set sail on October 2 from Gothenburg in Sweden. It is pieced together mostly by hand with the techniques used to build the original boat that sank in 1745.
She will follow the same route as she did in the 18th century, a journey of about 70,000 kilometres. After calling at(停靠) several foreign ports, she plans to reach Guangzhou in July and Shanghai in August the next year. Then she will start her homeward journey from Hong Kong in December 2006.
Like her forerunner(先驱), the ship is full of Sweden artworks and products for trade and cultural exchange with her visiting ports. Her voyage is also part of the celebrations for the 55th anniversary of diplomatic(外交的) relationships between China and Sweden.
China has promised the warmest possible welcome when the ship reaches Chinese ports. A guide ship for the Gotheborg is being built in Guangzhou.
阅读短文后,请回答下列问题。请将答案写在答题卷上。
51. Why does the article say Gotheborg was an old friend to the Chinese?
52. How many times did Gotheborg come to China in the 18th?
53. Is the original boat itself or a replica will come to China?
54. Has the ship returned to her Country yet?
55. From which can we see that China will give the Gotheborg a warm welcome?
D
This summer, the most popular tourist sight(旅游景点) in China has to be Tibet. Why? Because the Qinghai-Tibet Railway is set to open on July 1.
The Qinghai-Tibet Railway is the first railroad between Tibet and rest of China. It is 1,142 kilometers long and is the world's highest railroad.
About 960 kilometers of it is over 4,000 meters above sea level. Many people thought it was impossible to build a railway so high. But the railroad was successful completed last October.
The railway will make travel cheaper for Tibetans. Most of them don't have enough money to travel by air.
It will also bring more tourists to Tibet. A recent Xinhua report said the new railway will bring 3,000 to 4,000 tourists to Lhasa(拉萨) each day.
In Shanghai, one travel agency has worked out a 10-day-trip from Shanghai to Lhasa for a price of 3,600 yuan. However, this cost may change as the final price for the train has not been decided yet.
A railway trip to Tibet will be more comfortable than driving or flying. Each train has special windows to keep out ultraviolet(紫外线) light and sandstorms.
Thin air makes you feel sick. To stop this from happening, the train gives oxygen(氧气) through its air-conditioning system. If you still feel sick, you will find oxygen masks near the seats.
