九年级人教版Unit 5 What are the shirts made of?教案
Section A (1a-2c)
一、Teaching objectives:
1. 语言知识目标:
1) 掌握以下单词:chopsticks, coin, fork, blouse, silver, glass, cotton, steel, grass, leaf, fair, environmental.
2) 掌握以下短语:be made of/from/in
3)掌握以下句型:
①  —This ring looks nice. Is it made of silver?  
—Yes, and it was made in Thailand.
②  What is it made of/from?  
2.能力目标:
1)能够用英语描述及询问物品的制作材料,正确理解一般现在时的被动语态的用法及句子结构。
2)能够用被动语态的陈述句、一般疑问句和特殊疑问句描述和询问物产及产地。
3.情感目标:
了解一些日常用品的制成材料,增长生活常识,养成良好的生活习惯。
二、Teaching important and difficult points:
1. Important points:
1) 掌握本课时中生活用品的生词及短语;
2) 通过听说训练,能够用英语描述及询问物品的制作材料及产地。
2. Difficult points:
1)学习一般现在时被动语态的用法及句子结构。
2)学习be made of/from/in在句子中用法。
三、Teaching procedures
Step 1: Lead in
Watch avedio about The Adventures of Tintin.
T: 1) What can you see the living goods on the screen ?
  2) What are they made of ?
Ss : ...
Ss show different answers , T leads in the topic of Unit5.
Step2 : Presentation
Present the sentence structure, using the pictures on the big screen:
—Is this table made of wood?—No, it isn’t. It’s made of glass.
—What’s the paper made from? —It’s made from wood.

2. Learn the new words.
1)Show some pictures on the big screen. Try to learn the new words using “be made of” structure.
e.g. This pair of chopsticks are made of bamboo.  This coin is made of silver.
Is this blouse made of cotton? No, it isn’t. It’s made of silk.
What’s the fork made of? It’s made of steel.
2) Ss read the new words together.
Step3: Work on 1a:
1) Let Ss read the things and materials in 1a. Discuss with their partners and match them with the materials. More than one answer is possible.
T: What are these things usually made of? Match them with the materials. More than one answer is possible.
1. chopsticks                 wood
2. window                   gold
3. coin                      silver
4. stamp                    paper
5. fork                      silk
6. blouse                    glass
2) Ss match them on the blackboard and check the answers .
Step4: Listening
Pre-listening
  T shows the pictures to the class then asks what the hat is made of and where it was made .
  Ss: It is made of ...
While-listening (1b&2b)
1.T: Tell Ss they will hear a conversation about some things and material. Listen and write down the products what they are made of .
1) What are the shirts made of ?They are made of________.
2) What are the chopsticks made of ?They are made of________.
3) What is the ring made of ?It is made of________.
2. Pay attention to the key phrases in the sentence, Play the recording for the Ss to listen.
3. Ss try to listen again and write down the things where they were made.
1)Where were the shirts made ?They were made in________ .
2)Where were the chopsticks made ?They were made in________.
3)Where was the ring made ?It was made in __________.
Work on 2b:
1.T: Let’s listen to another conversation between Nick and Marcus.
2. Let Ss read the sentences below and predict the answers.Make sure they understand the meaning of each sentence.
3. Listen and write“T”or“F”.

____2) The painting is made of wood and glass.
____3) The students are asked to pay for the art and science fair.
____4) The students are interested in environmental protection and recycling.
  4. Listen again and fill in the blanks. Make sure they understand the key words and new  words.
The art and science fair is outside the _________  __________ . The school notice board says that all students are invited to attend _____  _____ ! All the work there were made by ________   _________ . Nick went there and saw a huge model plane. It's made of used ________  and _______ . He also saw a beautiful painting. It's made from __________ , __________ and __________ .
Step5: Pair work
1. Read the conversation in the box in 1c.   
2. Ss try to make conversations using the information of pictures.  
e.g. A: Hey, do you think the shirt looks very nice?
      B: Hmm...yes, is it made of cotton?
      A: No, it isn’t. It’s made of silk.
      B: Where was it made?
      A: It was made in China.
3. Let some pairs read out their conversations.
Step6: Post-reading(Group work)
1.Suppose you have just visited a supermarket or other places. Make conversations using the information of the chart .
E.g. A: What did you buy in the supermarket?
      B: I bought a beautiful blouse/chopsticks. Is it/Are they made of /from cotton/wood?
      A:Yes, it is/they are . No, it isn't/they aren't.
      B: Where was it/ were they made?
      A: It was made/ They were made in Korea/China.
2. Let Ss make their own conversations.
Step7: Summary
New words: chopsticks, coin, fork, blouse, cotton, silver, glass, steel, grass, leaf (leaves), fair, environmental.
Key sentences:
A: Is it /Are they made of /from... ?
B :Yes, it was / they were made in Thailand.
A:What ‘s the model plane made of ?
B: It’s made of used wood and glass.
Step8 :Homework
Introduce some products of your hometown what they are made of and where they were made to your friends.
