Analysis of textbook

1. This unit talks about the weather, weather is a simple and meaningful topic in our daily life. This lesson is Part B of Unit 3 Weather of PEP Primary English, Book 4.   .

2. It includes two parts: Let’s learn and Let’s play. In section 1, it mainly deals with these key words: sunny, rainy, windy, cloudy, snowy. And, in section 2, it deals with the patterns: what’s the weather like in      ? /it’s       in      . This lesson can let children know how to describe the weather of different cities.

l Analysis of students

1. The students of grade 4 have studied English more than one year, they have learned some vocabulary, and they can understand some simple orders of teacher. However they are active, and they cannot focus on the class for a long time. So this less will attract students’ attention by pictures, sound and game.

l Teaching aims and teaching requirements:

1. Let children understand the meaning of sunny/windy/rainy/cloudy/snowy.

2. Children can talk with others using the sentences “ what’s the weather like in ------ ”、“ it’s sunny/windy……in ------”in the daily life.

3. Students can know the weather icons of “ sunny ”/“windy”/“cloudy”/“snowy”/“rainy”.

l Teaching emphases:

1. The vocabulary;

2. Target languages: What’s the weather like in------? It’s sunny/……in------.

3. Let students learn to talk about the weather.

l Teaching difficulties:

1. Let children know the part of speech of the five words.

2. The pronunciation of the five words.

l Teaching methods:

1. The Direct Teaching Method(直观教学法)

2. Multimedia Teaching Method(多媒体教学法)

3. The Gaming Teaching Method(游戏教学法)

Step 1: Greeting

T: Good afternoon, boys and girls!

Ss:

Step 2: Warming Up

T: Today, I have something new for you, before the class, I’ll play a beautiful song for you. Let’s sing it together. (play the song)

(------------teacher and students sing it twice together. )

T: Class, Do you like this song?

Ss: Yes!

T: Great! I’m so happy that you like it!

Step 3: Leading in

T: Now, class begins. Children, do you know what’s the weather like today?

Ss: 阴天。    

T: Yes, in English it’s cloudy. Class, do you know the weather of other cities?

Ss: No.

T: It doesn’t matter. I’ll show you the weather of Beijing, London, Moscow, Singapore and Sydney in turn.

Step 4: Presentation 1  

T: Class, look, what’s this? ( show the picture of sun )

Ss: It’s sun.

T: Yes, it’s sun.（write the word “ sun ” and put the picture on the blackboard）So, class, what’s the weather like in Beijing?

Ss: 晴天。

T: Yes, you are so clever! It’s sunny in Beijing. ( write down the word “ sunny ” on the blackboard )

Step 5: Drill 1

T: Read after me, what’s the weather like in Beijing? ( write the sentence on the blackboard )

Ss:

T: It’s sunny in Beijing. ( write the sentence on the blackboard )

Ss：

T: Sun, sunny, it’s sunny in Beijing.

Ss:

Step 6: Presentation 2

T: Now, children, listen carefully.

T: Class, what did you hear?

Ss: Rain/雨。

T: Yes, it’s rain. （write the word “ rain ” and put the picture of rain on the blackboard）So, class, what’s the weather like in London? Please hands up.

T: Student A, you please.

SA: It’s rainy/下雨的。

T: Yes, you are right! Let’s clap for her.

T: It’s rainy in London. ( write down the word “ rainy ” on the blackboard )

Step 7: Drill 2

T: Read after me, rain, rainy, it’s rainy in London?

Ss:

T: Student B, please read these words, and the others read after her for three times.

SB: Rain.

Ss: Rain, rain, rain.

SB: Rainy.

Ss: Rainy, rainy, rainy.

T: Well done! You did a very good job!

Step 8: Presentation 3

T: Class, look here, what’s this? (show the picture of cloud )

Ss: It’s cloud/乌云。

T: Yes, it’s cloud.（write the word “ cloud ” and put the picture on the blackboard）Now, guess, what’s the weather like in Moscow? Please hands up.

T: Ok, student C.

SC: 多云的。

T: Class, is she right?

Ss: Yes, she is right.

T: Yes, it’s cloudy in Moscow. Let’s clap for her.  

Step 9: Drill 3

T: Children, read after me, what’s the weather like in Moscow?
( write down the word “ cloudy ” on the blackboard )

Ss:

T: Cloud, cloudy, it’s cloudy in Moscow.

Ss:

Step 10: Presentation 4

T: Now, children, listen carefully.

T: Class, what did you hear?

Ss: 风。

T: Yes, it’s wind.（write the word “ wind ” and put the picture of wind on the blackboard）Now, guess, what’s the weather like in Singapore? Please hands up.

T: Student D, you please.

T: Ok, student D.

Ss: 刮风的。

T: Bingo, you are right! It’s windy in Singapore. A gift for you.

Step 11: Drill 4

T: Read after me, what’s the weather like in Singapore? (write down the word “ windy ” on the blackboard )

Ss:

T: Wind, windy, it’s windy in Singapore.

Ss:

T: Student E, what’s the weather like in Singapore?

SE: It’s windy in Singapore.

T: And you ask her ( student A ).

SE: what’s the weather like in Singapore?

SA: It’s windy in Singapore.

Step 12: Presentation 5

T: Children, look here, what’s this? (show the picture of snowman )

Ss: It’s a snow/雪

T: Right, It’s a snow.（write the word “ snow ” and put the picture on the blackboard）Now, guess, what’s the weather like in Moscow? Please hands up.

T: Ok, student B.

SB: 下雪的。

T: Class, is she right?

Ss: Yes.

T: Yes, it’s snowy in Sydney, (write down the word “ snowy ” on the blackboard ) a gift for you.

Step 13: Drill 5

T: Read after me, what’s the weather like in Sydney?

Ss:

T: Snow, snowy, it’s snowy in Singapore.

Ss:

( Then drill the five words and the sentence again. )

Step 14: Practice

T：Next, let’s talk, look at the picture, you need to make up a dialogue with your partner, using the sentences, later, I’ll check up on you, clear?

Ss: Yes.

T: Good, you can do it now.

T: Ok, stop here, student A, student B, you two please.

SA: What’s the weather like in……?

SB: It’s……in…….

T: Well done! Sit down, please.

Step 15: Let’s play

T: Now, let’s play a game, “ Ask and Guess ”. Class, look at the picture, there are the rules of the game.

T: Ok, let’s rehearsal fist, student B and student C, come here please.

T: Thank you! go back to your seats. Class, are you clear the rules?

Ss: Yes.

T: Ok, who want to have a try?

T: You two ( student C and student D ) please.

SC: What’s the weather like in……?
