Teaching procedures
Step 1 Warm-up / Review
1. Greetings
2. Free talk
---Who’s your Chinese teacher ?---What’s she like?
---Do have your own room now? --- What’s it like?
Guide Ss to describe the classroom with “ There is / are … in the classroom .”
3. Divide the groups for race .
---What’s on the black board ? ( There are 4 trees on the black board . )
Trees for 4 groups . ( Give flowers to the good group .)
Step 2 Presentation
1. T simple draws a circle over the tree : What’s over the trees ?
--There is a sun over the trees .
---Is there a sun outside the classroom ? where is it ?
Present “sky” and learn to say. (cry, fly )
---What can you see in the sky, too ?
Guide to say : There is /are … in the sky .
2. Present “ cloud” and learn to say . ( house , mouse )
T ask S1 to draw a big blue cloud. Then CAI shows some gray clouds : What color are these clouds ? Why they are gray? ( It will rain .)
3. Give the group who had the correct answer a flower .
Present “ flower” and learn to say . ( now , brown )
What color of flowers do you like?
--You like flowers, what do flowers like? ---water
What likes water, too? Present “grass” and learn to say. (glass, class , bath)
Grass+ flowers +trees = plants.
4. Plants need water, where does the water come from?
Present “river” “lake” and learn to say .
a. What’s the difference?
b. CAI shows some famous lakes in China, Guide Ss to talk about the rivers in China. e.g.: There is West Lake in China.
c. CAI: What’s the longest river? / biggest lake ?
5. Guessing: T describe something, Ss guess. Review sky, cloud, river… then present the new word.
6. Learn to say the new word “forest”, Guide Ss to describe the forest with “ There is / are … in the forest .
7.Where can you see the forest ? Guide Ss to say:
There is a forest in the mountain. Learn to say mountain . Then learn to say the sentences.
---Are there any mountains in China?
---What’s the mountain like?
8. Present: There is a forest in the nature park . Learn to say the word “ nature”.
---Is there a nature park in Haiyan?
CAI shows the picture of Nanbei Lake Nature Park: Let’s go to the nature park.
9. CAI : What can you see in the nature park ?
Present: path
Learn to say the word “ path” and ask Ss to guess .
Step 3 Practice
1. Talk about a beautiful picture in the nature park with “There is /are …”
2. Let’s play games in the nature park.
a. Compare 4 pictures, What’s the difference?
b. Look at the pictures and remember: What’s it like?
2. Task in the park
---There is a treasure in the nature park, do you want to get it ?
a.Listen and finish a passage : Where is the treasure (宝藏) ?

Design your own nature park in groups with the sentences “ There is /are … in the nature park .” Then introduce it to other groups.
