Ⅳ.阅读理解。(30分)
(A) Is there life on Mars? We don’t know. We’re sure that people on the earth are not able to live on Mars. People need oxygen to breathe in. There is almost no oxygen on Mars.
Living on Mars would be like living on a very high mountain. There would be little air. The temperature might be 50 degrees above zero at noon and 140 degrees below zero at night. Many people think there may be plants on Mars. We know that on Mars there is carbon(碳). This is a kind of material found in all plants and animals on the earth. Through a telescope, Mars looks red. In some places, it seems gray. At times the gray color turns gray-green, then brown, then gray again. The gray-green color may be a kind of plant life changing color with the seasons.
Will men go to Mars one day? If they do, they must take enough oxygen, food and clothing with them.
根据短文内容,判断正(T)误(F)。
( )26.There is enough oxygen for us to live on Mars.
( )27.It’s too hot in the daytime but it’s too cold at night on Mars.
( )28.We can find carbon in all plants and animals on the earth.
( )29.Sometimes Mars looks blue.
( )30.If one day we can go to Mars, we must take enough oxygen, food and clothing with us.
(B) We have always been interested in the moon. 2, 000 years ago, people already knew it moves around the earth and where it would be in the sky at different times of the year. At that time, everything about the moon was learned by watching it carefully in the sky.
When scientists could use telescopes to study the moon more closely, their ideas began to change. They could see the moon was made of rocks. Most scientists thought moon rocks would be different from those on the earth. This was because they believed the moon had once been a planet that had been caught in the earth’s gravity millions of years earlier.
In 1969, moon rocks were finally brought to the earth and studied. Much to their surprise, scientists found that, except for water, the moon and the earth were made of the same things. Once again new ideas were needed for this new information.
After years of study, most scientists now think that the moon was once part of the earth. They believe very early in its history, maybe 4 billion years ago, something about the size of Mars hit the earth. This sent billions of rocks into space around our planet. These rocks slowly joined together and after many years became the moon.
In the future, even though our ideas about the moon may change again, we will still be interested in it.

D.made of the same things as the earth
( )33.After years of study, most scientists now think _____.
A.the earth was once part of the moon
B.the moon was once part of the earth
C.something about the size of Mars will hit earth in the near future
D.a lot of rocks will slowly join together to become the other moon
( )34.The writer wants to tell us in this passage_____.

(C) On June 24, 1947, aUSpilot named Kenneth Arnold looked out the window of his plane and saw nine silver objects flying close together.
They were moving very quickly. Kenneth guessed that their speed was more than 1,600 kilometres an hour. He told journalists that the objects did not move like planes, but like saucers(碟状物) move when someone throws them across the surface of water. Later one of the journalists called the objects “flying saucers”.
This was the first time the expression “flying saucer” was used, but people have seen UFOs (unidentified flying objects) in the sky centuries ago. For example, in the thirteenth century some English farmers saw a flat, silver object in the sky. This is surprising because in those days there were no planes, weather balloons, or space stations that could be mistaken for UFOs.
Today, many UFOs turn out to be something quite ordinary. One evening in February 2001, eight colored lights appeared in the sky above Kuala Lumpurin Malaysia. The lights seemed to float in the air for ten minutes before moving off and disappearing. Many people thought they were UFOs. They turned out to be good luck lanterns(灯笼) that had been released from a temple.
Most UFOs can be explained like this. However, there are many that can’t. Surveys show that at least half of us believe intelligent life exists on other planets. Is it possible, therefore, that someone from “out there” is visiting us?

Ⅳ.听短文,选择正确答案。短文读两遍。
Last Sunday my husband and I went to a large supermarket inLondon. We both needed some new clothes and were hoping to buy a television. When we arrived inOxford Street, it was so crowded that we decided that each of us would go on our own way for the moment and meet again at the ground station. So I left my husband and started looking around the shops. Unfortunately, all the clothes were in a very large size and were not fit for me. But I did buy a television at a very low price, so I felt quite pleased with myself. When I arrived at the station, my husband was not there, so I sat down in a nearby coffee house to have a cup of coffee. I quickly finished my drink when I saw him. I went out to meet him. He looked very happy. Then I saw he was carrying a large and heavy cardboard box.“Oh, dear!”I thought,“We have no clothes but two TV sets.”
