Teaching Aims:
1. Using superlatives to talk about places .
2. Express facts and make common observations.
3. Compare characteristics of objects.
4. Do simple research and report on research results in paragraph or short report form.
5. Recognize and learn about famous natural sites.
Important Points & Difficult Points:
1.Teach the following new words and expressions: the natural world, country, flag, Australia, New Zealand, place, Black Mountain , island.
2. Master the sentence patterns:
Which country has this flag? What’s the name of this place? Let’s look at a map.
Teaching Aids:
Koko, new word cards and some pictures .
Teaching Steps:
I. Everyday English.
II. Go over some countries learned before.
III. Presentation
1. Teach the new word “natural world”.
2. Put a map and pictures of a mountain, a lake, a sea, an island and a river on the board. Teach the new words “country, flag, Australia, New Zealand, place, lake, sea , river” to the students.
3. Introduce the words “long, high, mountain” and “island”. Ask the students if they know the names of any mountains, rivers, islands, etc. Allow them to speak in Chinese if they do not know the English names.
IV. Practice
1. Show “Koko”. Point to the pictures. Read aloud or play Pupil’s Book Cassette.
2. Ask the students to repeat the words after me.
3. Ask the students to work in pairs and role-play the dialogues.
V. More to do
Ask the students to play a game in groups of four. Randomly point to the pictures on the board and ask What’s this? The first group to answer the question correctly gets one point. Continue asking questions until all the pictures are used. The group with the most points is the winner.
Homework:
1. Copy the new words in part A five times.
2. Recite part A.
3. Listen to and read part A five times.

Teaching Feedback:
In this period, the main teaching content is learning the famous mountain, lake, river and island in New Zealand. We should urge the students to pay attention to the capital letters of these new words and their pronunciations.

Topic:  Unit 2  The natural world  (Part B1)       Period:2nd

Teaching Aims:
Using superlatives to talk about places .
Important Points & Difficult Points:
1. Learn the new words and the superlative degrees of the adjectives.
2. Master the sentence patterns:
The longest river in China is the Changjiang River.
What is the highest mountain in the world?
Mount Qomolangma is the highest mountain in the world.
Teaching Aids:
Koko, new word cards and a computer
Teaching Steps:
I. Warm up
1. Greetings
2. Everyday English
II. Revision
1. Revise A by reading and reciting the dialogue and the expressions.
2. Have a dictation of the words, expressions and the sentence patterns .
III. Presentation
1. Bring in three rulers of different lengths. Label them Ruler 1, Ruler 2 and Ruler 3. Tell the students Ruler 1 is longer than Ruler 3. Ruler 2 is longer than Ruler 1. Which one is the longest? Prompt the students to answer Ruler 2 is the longest.
2. Explain to the students that when comparing two people or things, comparatives are used but when comparing three or more things, superlatives are to be used.
3. Learn how to form superlatives of the adjectives.
4. Introduce the words highest and longest.
5. Ask the students what the longest river in China is.
IV. Practice
1. Show Koko. Ask the students to repeat the sentences after it.
2. Point to the second picture and tell the students that Helen and Tim are in a contest.
3. Ask the students to read the conversation again and match the pictures at the bottom with the correct answer.
4. Check the answers with the students.
V. More to do
Put the students into groups. Ask them to do a survey within their group to find out the results for the following questions: Which is the tallest/shortest bridge in our city? Which is the highest mountain/longest river here? Etc. When the group survey is completed, have a class survey by comparing the results of all the groups.
Homework:
1. Copy the new words five times for each.
2. Copy part B1 once.
3. Listen to and read Part B1 five times.

Teaching Aids:

I. Questions: What is the highest mountain in the world? What is the largest city in the world? What is the longest river in the world?
II. Go over the way to form superlatives of adjectives.
III. Presentation
(Part B2)
1. Write hot, big, long and young on the board. Ask the students to write the comparative and superlative of these words on a pice of paper.
2. Put the students into pairs. They check the answers with their partner.
3. Show Koko. Ask the students to look at the pictures and the words below them.
4. read the sentences on the postcard and ask the students to repeat them after me.
5. Tell the students to complete the postcard using the correct form of the words.
(Part B3)
1. Read the rubric to the students. Remind them that they should familiarize themselves with the sentences before I play they tape. Show Koko. Ask the students to fill in the blanks according to what they hear on the tape.
2. Ask the students to listen to the tape once more to check their answers.
3. Ask the students to correct the false sentences in B3. Have some students read out their sentences for the class to check the answers.

1. Talk about Splendid China with the students. Ask them if they have been there before. Explain that it is a model park located at Shenzhen Bay. The major tourist attractions in China like the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, Potala Palace, etc. have been miniaturized in the park.
2. Ask the students to read the text silently and unaided the first time. Show Koko and ask them to say the sentences after it.
3. Give the students one minute. Ask them to find all the superlatives used in the text. (biggest, longest, highest)
III. Teach Part D
1. Ask the students to read the text again and then read through the sentences.
2. Tell them to fill in the blanks according to what they read in the text.
3. Check the answers.
Homework:
1. Listen to, read and recite C.
2. Copy “Splendid China, famous, building, Potala Palace, China Folk Culture Villages, show, enjoy, knife-knives” five times.
3. Copy Part C twice.

学生在学习锦绣中华时背诵很熟练,我借此引导学生热爱本土,用英语会向他人介绍自己城市的景点,也是让我们自豪的一件事情,学生们配合很好,谢谢孩子们。但由于学生的基础还有限制,有三分之二的同学不能流利背诵,需要更加强调学生多听,用关键词的方法去背诵,以减轻由于没有形成语感而机械背诵的负担。

Teaching Aims:

1.The symbols [ð] [θ] and the poem
2. Write a passage based on an example.
Teaching Aids:
a tape recorder, transparency(Koko) and a computer
Teaching Steps:
I.  Have a dictation (dictate the new words and phrases of this unit and Parts A, B C).
II.  Teach Part E
1.  Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette and ask the pupils to listen to the symbols and the words.
2.  Write the symbols for the sounds on the board. Write the words on the page under each symbol. Ask the students to tell me other words with the same sounds and add them to the list.
3.        Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette again. Ask the pupils to listen to the sounds and the words.
4.        Say the words slowly and clearly. Check that the students are making a distinction between the sounds .
5.        Play the Pupils Book Cassette again. Ask the students to listen to the rhyme.
6.        Play the recording . Ask the pupils to listen to the words and then write under the correct symbols.
III. Teach Part F (My natural world)
1. Ask the students to read through the list. Talk with them about the natural features that can be found in their area. Ask them to think and then tick the list on page 16.
2. Tell the students that they must also think about any special places that can be found and then tick the list.
3. Ask them to do some research according to the features and places they can think of. Then they fill in the blanks at the bottom of page 16.
4. Read the passage about Mount Qomolangma on page 17. Use it as an example to write about a special place in China of their own choice.
5. Ask them to read out their passages to the class.
Homework:
1. Write a paragraph about an interest place.
2. Go over Parts A, B and C.

学生对于音标还大多数没有形成看见音标就能自己读词的能力,所以学生学习音标还是处于散乱的阶段。我曾经尝试用简易音标,不过效果一般。或许我还要换种教法。

Teaching Aids:

Teaching Steps:
I. Revision
1. Ask some pupils to read or recite A, B1, B2 and C.
2. Ask “What is the highest mountain in the world? What is the largest city in the world? What is the longest river in the world? …” One by one.
II. Teach Part G
1.        Play the cassette for the students to listen to the chant.
2.        Play the cassette again and encourage the students to join in with the words.
3.        Tell the students to say the chant again.
III. Teach Part H
Ask the students if they know which is the correct word for the sentence It’s a ____ of people. Tell them to look at the picture and guess what the expression means. If they need a clue, remind them that it is similar to the expression in Chinese. Tell them to guess and then check it in a dictionary to see if they are correct. The answer is “sea”.
IV. Part J (Progress check)
Ask the pupils to do the exercises by themselves first, then check their answers.
Homework:
1. Go over the new words in this unit .
2. Write the comparative and superlative degrees of some adjectives.

4.        Read the passage after Koko and then answer the questions below.

拓展阅读学生非常吃力。几乎就是我每句话在讲解,他们跟读了很多遍也还是不能达到齐读准确。个别读的效果也不好。的确有点让我不得不想点办法,去调动孩子们的学习兴趣和积极性。

I asked the students to surf the net to know what other special places in China or in the world.  通过对活动手册的讲解,发现学生们逐渐对英语有兴趣了,第二课的练习明显比第一课讲解学生配合方面好了很多,学生的自信度也在提高,我看到这些变化非常开心!但每个班还有同学在抄作业,今天我在三班发了脾气,痛斥了那些抄作业的学生。同时讲解了为什么不能抄作业的理由。学生懂得了思考的重要性。


第二课教学反思:
第二单元复习通过学习运用形容词比较级和最高级,使学生学会了用英语如何表达中国或世界之最。也培养了学生对祖国和世界上一些特殊的名胜有了了解,激发了孩子们对世界的好奇心。但学生要完成2单元的f部分时,效果一般,因为孩子们头脑里对稍微复杂点的景点描写没有得到积累和训练,只能多数模仿写。所以建议那些英语学困生打消不必要的顾虑,实在不会写的可以暂时模仿或改写。写作能力的提高是听说读用能力的关键能力之一。要想办法把写的训练渗透在每节课的教学中,在学生作业中要有所体现。笔记中造句和编对话或短文的训练要加强。

4.        Ask the students why the sun looks bigger/brighter than any other stars.
5.        Practise reading the dialogue.
