Teaching Plan for Section A Topic 1 of Unit 2
(Project English Grade 8)
I . Analysis of the teaching materials
   1. Its status and fuction
     Project English Unit 2 Topic 1 mainly talks about illnesses, seeing a doctor, asking and giving advice to others who are feeling ill. Section A is the preparation of the coming sections and topics.
As we know, one of the main aims to teach English is to use English, to improve students’ abilities. The best way for students to improve their English abilities is to use English. This class I mainly lead the students to use English to express their feelings, illnesses, pains and how to give advice.
2. The Teaching aims
Following the instructions of the teaching syllabus and requirements of quality-oriented education, and considering the unique characteristics of this section and Grade 8 students language capacities,I work out the following demands:
1) Knowledge aims:
I require the students to grasp the vocabulary about pains and illenss in order to understand the dialogs.At the same time they should use the communicative phrases about expressing symptoms and giving advicd.
2) Ability aims:
Comprehensive development of ability can help the students study efectively .It aslo helps to develop the students’ abilities of listening ,speaking, reading and writing..
3) Moral aims:
After learning this section, make the students know how to care for other and help each other. Instruct them there are always some probabilities of being sick,so they should know how to fight against the illness.
3. Teaching emphases and difficulties
The emphases are:
1)      Learning how to express feelings and pains.
2)      Learning how to give advice when someone is ill.
The difficulity is : the expressions of giving advice.
II . Analysis the students
The students have learned some simple expressions of asking others’ physical situation in Grade 7,and they have touched upon the useful expressions should/shouldn’t. Therefore, they can absorb the new knowledge and practice the language points easily. And the sentence patterns of the dialogs are not totally new, so they can put it into use in communication.In addition,the students are eager to show themselves, but in their daily life ,they have no much chances.Some of them are weaker in English learning.They will get certain help during the class.
III.Analysis of the teaching methods
Learning the new words in the sentences is good way. According to students’ actual language level, I use the following methods:
1.Task-based teaching method
The new course standard points out, the teacher should design the teaching activity regarding students as the centre, pay close attention to each student, each student’s mood life and emotion experience, ethical life and personality building.So I apply the different kinds of teaching methods.
2. Learning by doing
New course idea of “learning by doing” is very welcomed by students. So I make drills between T and between Ss and Ss ,offer them opportunities to practice oral English.
3. Contest teaching method
In order to train students to learn by themselves. I design tasks . The teacher instructs students to acquire the knowledgeThe competitions between groups can arouse the students’interest. Students should cooperate in their own group at the same time they compete with the other groups. This can help students fostera sense of cooperation and competition.
4Summarize the main points of this section to make a conclusion.
IV . Analysis the learning methods
The students have different levels of learning English. So I’ll tell them to pay attention to the knowledge first. I’ll give them the tasks and ask them to work in pairs or in groups. They can help each other. This can encourage most students to join in our activities. And they will learn more easily .At the same, they also will be happy when they learn.

Step 1 Review and Leading in (3’)

Greeting between the teacher and the students.Then the whole class work ,disscussing the following questions: Whats the motto of the 2008 Olympic Games?Faster, higher, stronger. What does it mean? It means we should build ourselves up.(If the students can't answer, I will help them.) The P.E. examination is coming soon .Let the students know “Health is important.”
2. Lead to 1a. Show them a picture and ask them some questions like “ What’s wrong with her ? She has a toothache.( I’ll act as I have a toothache at the same ) What should I do ? You should see a dentist.”Lead in the new lesson.
In this part, learning by the pictures and body language , the students not only review the learned knowledge,but also will be quickly arouse the interest. They will be eager to go to the new lesson.

Step 2 Presentation (10’)
Show several groups of pictures with courseware. Show the words of illness ,help them describe each picture .Get them to ask and answer: What’s wrong/the matter with him/her? He/She has a/the…( The teacher’s body language is very important here.)
2.After familiarizing the diffrernt kinds of illness, I arrange the students to listen to the tape(1a) three times.The first for them to answer the teacher’s question(What’s wrong with KangKnag? What should he do ?) The second for them to read after the tape. And the third for them to write down the missing words.
In this part ,with the help of the courseware, the students can grasp these illness easily .Activity 2 is connected with the listening part of the Exmination to the High School. The students’ listening ,reading and writing is tranied .

Step 3 Practice (12’)
Group work. Have a group competition. Let them act out 1b. Each group prepares two dialogs .I will give them the example ,pictures and the phrases on the courseware in order to help them finish the dialogs. Encourage them to speak more sentences as they can.When they act out the dialog,ask them to perform what they are talking . After preparation ,ask the volunteers in each group to act out their dialogs. If they do well , their group will get a mark A or B (A: best B: better) .The group which has the most A is the winner.
In this part , I guide the students to make the dialogs and give the advice. Check how much they have learned. It also highlight their paticipation and cooperation.Competition can activate the class.

Step 4 Consolidation (5’)
Finish 3a . Read and match, check their answers.Lead them to summarize the usage of should and shouldn’t .Show it on the courseware.
In this part , the students know the usage of modal verbs(should/shouldn’t) and know how to give more advice.
In the other hand,they can communicate and cooperate with others. It also tells them to care for each other and help each other.

Step 5 Project (10’)
Writing Practice.Show some pictures which have learned in this section .Give the key words .Write down the setences
In this part, This activity is connected with the making sentences part of the Exmination to the High School.

Step 6 Listening (2’)
Let the students do Part 4.Listen to the conversation and number the pictures. Listen again ,with the help of the form, write down the advice.
In this part, develop the students’ abilities of listening and writing. This activity is connected with the making sentences part of the Exmination to the High School.

Step 7 Summarition (2’)
Show the summary on the courseware .Read them out for a conclusion.
In this part, it can help the students to focus on the emphase and difficulty of this section. Have a clear idea of what them learned today.

Step 8 Homework (1’)
1.      Prepare a dialog and act it out tomorrow.
2.      Recite the words.
In this part , homework is necessary. It can consolidate the knowledge newli learned.

VI . About the writing on the blackboard

          VIII. About the teaching thought
With the development of society, English teaching and learning contents are constantly changed. What we study is what we need in our daily life. We should get the students learn to care for each other in daily life and make them healthy and fit for society . That’s my idea about the teaching design of this section.
