Dinosaur (恐龙): Scientists have found more than 500 kinds. Let's get to know some of them:

The cleverest:

Their brains were very heavy for their body size. Example: Troodon (伤齿龙) --- as large as a human, walked on two legs, ate meat, had large eyes and was good at hearing. They lived during the late Cretaceous period.

The widest:

They lived in the late Cretaceous Period. They ate plants, were very heavy and moved slowly. Example: Ankylosaurus (甲龙) --- a very large armoured (披甲的) dinosaur, 8-11 meters long, 1.8 metres wide and 1.2 metres tall, as heavy as three or four cars, with short legs.

The most dangerous:

They ate meat, ran fast and had huge claws (爪子) and sharp (锋利的) teeth. Their arms were like wings (翅膀).

Example: Megaraptor (大盗龙) --- about 6-8 metres long, with a 36-centimetre-long sharp claw on each foot. They lived during the late Cretaceous period.

T-rex (霸王龙) was one of the biggest meat-eating dinosaurs, 12-15 metres long and as heavy as six cars. They lived during the late Cretaceous period.

美国中学生的课余活动（After-school Activities）



在美国，中学生放学后通常有半小时左右的时间完成作业。除此之外，老师会要求学生定期写读书报告（report），例如：传记（biography）、动物故事（animal stories）、科幻小说（science fiction）、推理小说（mystery fiction）、历史事件（historic events）、家族史（family history）等。老师只是给读书报告搭个框架（outline），具体选题（topic）由学生自己来定。比如写“传记”，学生可以根据自己的爱好，或写林肯总统（President Lincoln），或写第一位登月宇航员（astronaut）、科学家（scientist）、体育明星（sports star）、歌手（singer）等一些有影响的人物。学生确定了选题后，通常需要到图书馆（library）阅读书籍收集资料。
