八年级初二英语下册《Teaching Procedures: Period 4》教案教学设计
Teaching Procedures:   Period  4
Step 1  Leading in
1. Greetings & free talk .
2. Check the homework :I left my homework at home ,what should I do ? Share some students’ advice .
Step 2  While-task
SB Page 14 , 3a .
1. Scan this letter ,underline the problem .
First read the letter to the class or ask a student to read it to the class.After reading,ask students to circle any words or phrases that they don’t understand.
Then ask students to say what words or phrases they don’t understand.Write these words or phrases on the board.Then explain these words or phrases.
And then ask students to underline the problem.
Then check the answers
Answers
My friends are planning a birthday party for my best friend and they don’t invite me.
2. Read the letter again , tick out the new words .
3. Explain something :
except=but 除…之外(不包括在内)
besides   除…之外(包括在内)
All the students went to the park except him .
Lucy and Lily will come to the party besides me .
find out = learned 了解到     find  找到
I just find out there is a dance tomorrow .
4. Listen to the recording .Ss practice reading .
Step 3  3b
This activity provides writing practice using the target language.
First ask some students to say some advice for “Left Out”.Write the key words on the board.For example,if a student says.You should have a talk with your best friend.Write on the board,have a talk with best friend.
Then have students fill in the blanks in Mary Lee’s letter.
Ask some students to read their letters to the class.
Step 4  3c
This activity provides writing practice using the target language.
Teaching Procedures:
Read the instructions.
Write your own letter in an advice column.Your problem can be real or imaginary.Read your letter to the class and ask for advice.
First ask students to say some problems they might write about.Write some key phrases on the board.This can help other students get some ideas to write about.
Give students examples.
I have a test on Friday and I want to go to the movies on Thursday night.
It’s my mother’s birthday tomorrow and I don’t have any money to buy her a present.
I had a terrible argument with my brother.
I got a bad grade in English.
Then ask students to write their letters on their own.Read their letters to the class and ask for advice.
But don’t make anyone read who doesn’t want to.
Step 5  4 Groupwork
This activity presents an opportunity for students to use the language of the unit to ask and offer advice.
First show some problems on the screen.
Problems
You left your homework at home.
Your best friend is more popular than you.
You lost your sports clothes
You don’t know where your ID card is.
You don’t want to have P.E. classes.
You parents always argue.
Then point to the dialogue.Ask three students to read it to the class.
Sa:My best friend is more popular than me.I want to be like him.What should I do?
Sb:You could be friendlier.
Sc:You should try to be funny.
Then ask students to work in groups.Choose one of the problems on the screen and give their advice.
Ask a few students to share the sample conversations.One student can pretend to have the problem and the other student can offer advice.
Have students decide which classmates have the best advice.

Step 6  Summary
Today we’ve read a letter.And we knew what problems “Left Out”had.And also we helped and gave him some advice.
We’ve learnt to express what problems we have in our daily life and how to give advice.
If we enable to help some one get out of their trouble,it’s really a pleasant thing.
Step 7.Self Check
1. Ask the students to do the exercises on their own .Then check the answers.
Answers
1.Let’s call up Joe and invite him to play tennis.
2.You should talk about your problems with your parents.
3.My friend is angry with me.What should I say to him?
4.I don’t want to argue.Let’s forget it.
5.I thought I failed my test but I just found out I passed!
2. Read the letter and then write some advice.
Have a student read the letter to the class first.And make sure each student can underst and the letter.
Then ask students to give their advice.First orally.Then write their advice in the answer paper.
Ask some students to read their letters of advice.Have students vote on the best advice.
3. Ask a few students to read their letters of advice.
4. Just for fun. Ask two students to read the conversation to the class.
Step 7 Homework
Learn the new words by heart.
Fill in the blanks with the words from the box.

1.Red,yellow,orange—What a colorful shirt!

Step Ⅰ
Greet the class as usual and check the homework.Ask students to read the new words first and then correct the pronunciation.Teach the new words and make sure each student can understand the meanings.
Step Ⅱ
Section 1 Before You Read
1aFirst ask students to say their after-school activities.Then have students complete the boxes.
1. Encourage the students to think about life outside school hours. List them on the Bb.
2. Ask the students to use the list on the Bb to complete the two boxes labeled ‘I do’, and ‘I don’t do-‘. They are free to add any ore activities they do, or don’t currently.
3. Ask a few students to share what they have written.
Task 2.Teach the students about using a dictionary.
1. Explain that a dictionary can help students learn independently.They can learn new words, how to pronounce them, and how to use them correctly.
2. Let the students to look up the words in the box.
3. Have a brief memory quiz on all the words.
4. Discuss the points made in the Reading Strategy about using a bilingual ,learner’s and electronic dictionary.
Have them check(√)each one when they understand.
Step Ⅲ
Section 2 While You Read
Task 1. Ask the students to read and notice the words they have just looked up in their dictionaries. Read the sentences to the class.
Task2.Ask the students to read the passage loudly . Play the tape for students and ask them to read the text.

Step Ⅳ
Section 3 After You Read
3a
Ask five different students to read the statements first.
1.American and British children do many after-school activities.
2.Many children are under pressure.
3.Parents these days push their children much harder than before.
4.Competition between families starts at a young age.
5.Children should have free time to relax.Then ask students whether the situation is the same in China.Have them discuss with their partners.
3b
Ask students write four sentences using one of the words from 1b in each sentence.
And invite four students write their sentences on the board.
3c
If you are Dr Alice Green.Write a letter to Cathy Taylor.Give advice about what she should do with her children.
Step Ⅴ Summary
This class we’ve learned a reading passage.And we knew many families and children are under pressure.We should learn how to work and how to relax.If you have any problems,you should solve them as soon as possible.I wish all of you can have a very happy life.
Step Ⅷ Homework
1. Write four sentences using one of the words from 1b in each sentence .
2. Are you or your friends under pressure ? Do a survey to find out .
