Ⅳ.阅读理解。(30分)(A、B两篇每小题1分, C、D两篇每小题2分)
(A) Now satellites are helping us to forecast the weather. They are in space, and they can reach any part of the world. The satellites take pictures of atmosphere(大气). So the scientists there can see the weather of any part of the world and how the weather will change.
Today, nearly five hundred weather stations in sixty countries can receive satellite pictures. When they receive the new pictures, they compare(比较) them with the earlier ones. Perhaps they may find that the clouds have changed during the last few hours. This may mean that the weather on the ground may soon change, too. In their next weather forecast, they can tell people about it.
So the weather satellites are of great help to the scientists at the station. In the past they could forecast the weather for about 24 or 48 hours earlier. Now they can make good forecast for 3 or 5 days. Soon, perhaps, they may be able to forecast the weather for a week or more ahead.

( )36.The weather satellites in space can help the scientists to know everything.
( )37.Changing clouds in the atmosphere means that weather may change.
( )38.Without satellites, scientists could forecast the weather for 3 or 5 days ahead.
( )39.Today, every country has its own weather station which can receive satellite pictures.
( )40.The main idea of this passage is that satellites are now used in weather forecast.
(B) How soon will robots become so clever that they will be able to do jobs which human can do, such as teaching language or looking after patients in hospital? Some experts believe this will happen in twenty years.
UAS, one Lordon company, has already developed a kind of machine. ①It can be used as “home-helps” for old people. It can also do such things as cooking eggs and cleaning the floor. The company says that the machine will accept simple voice instructions and that the machine will be controlled by a latest IBM microcomputer (微机). Mr. Henry, the director of UAS, believes that his company will develop the clever robots for using in industry. By this time they will begin to sell the machines into ordinary homes.
Robots can do much housework, such as washing dishes, cleaning the house and cooking meals. ②By the way, the price of them may be as little as$1,000.
But Dr. Sandra believes we have a long way to develop truly intelligent (真正智能化的) machines. She says, it can cook an egg. But if one of eggs is bad, it will still cook. If you ask a robot to do something unusual that needs a man to think, a robot is useless.

(C) A: Recently, the word “clone” has appeared very often in the newspapers. Do you know its meaning?
B: Not exactly. I read a report in yesterday’s newspaper. It said a Scottish scientist had successfully cloned a lamb named Dolly. It was the first time that a cloned lamb had been made from an adult sheep.
A: Actually, the word “clone” means to produce the “same” animal by taking cells(细胞) from an adult one. I think, if we know how to do cloning, we need only keep a small number of sheep, cows and horses.
B: (A)It’s said that recently there have been some people who ever wanted to clone humans.
A: It seems interesting. (B)但你觉得那样做可能吗?
B: No, I don’t think so. First, I think we can’t clone a dead person because the cells in his body have been dead already.
A: Then can we clone a living person?
B: Again no. You might clone yourself one after another, but it is only a copy, not a real you. It is only something, not a human.
A: Well, you mean that a real human can speak, think and create, and these abilities can’t be cloned?
B: That’s right!I think the main purpose of Dr. Ian Wilmut, the “father”of Dolly, is to make better animals, and it has nothing to do with human cloning.

Scientists have always wanted to know more about the other worlds in space. Years ago they knew a lot about the moon. They knew how big it is and how far away it is from the earth. But they wanted to know more about it. They thought and thought. At last they found the only way to know more was to send men to the moon.
The moon is about 384,000 kilometers away from the earth. A plane can not fly to the moon because the air reaches only 240 kilometers high above the earth. Then there is no air. But there’s something that can fly even when there is no air. That is a rocket. Rockets can fly out into space. Rockets with men in them have already reached the moon. Some rockets without men in them have flown to other parts much further than the moon in the universe. One day rockets may be able to go to any place.
