Teaching design of Section B

Topic 1 Unit 8 Grade7

Teaching aims and demands:

1 Learn words of describing weather:

cloudy, snowy, foggy, sunny, windy, rainy, bright, quiet, wet, dry, low, temperature

2 Review the simple past tense and present continuous tense:

How was the weather yesterday?

It was cloudy all day.

3 Learn to understand weather reports:

What’s the temperature, do you know?

The low temperature is 20℃ and the high temperature is 25℃.

Teaching content:  Section B Topic 1 Unit 8 Grade7

Teaching difficulty:The simple past tense and present continuous tense

How to make and understand weather reports

Teaching activities: Competition, dialogue, reports, sing songs, chant, game .

Teaching aids:

Multimedia courseware and students will be required before class to make cards of 1 c , try to show pictures and words in two parts.

Teaching design concept

Follow the task-based teaching concept, with students as the main body to task for the center, with communication for the purpose. Pay attention to the students' life actual and life experience, let it close to the students' practical to life. Set up the students for this thought, advocate the students to participate in the probe, experience, and cooperation, so as to achieve the teaching way and change the way of learning.

Teaching process:

Slide 1 before class : Chant: “The seasons” , arouse study atmosphere.

Step1 :  Review  (time: 5 ')

( The teachers and students interact to say hello import review present.)

1)      T: Good morning, class. This class we are going to learn Topic1 Section B. Go on talking about the seasons and the weather of each season. First , let’s make the weather report.

2)      (A boy and a girl student each makes an English report, reviewing last lesson about season, the weather ). Who 's on duty today? OK, come here, please.

Slide 2 show pictures of the four seasons, and the following sentence patterns

A: Which season do you like best?

B: I like... Best.

A: Why do you like... ?

B: Because it 's a good time to...

Because it 's a good season for...

Student 1: Good morning,class. Today is Monday. May 12 th. It 's spring. I like spring best, because it' s warm. I can fly a kite. What 's your favorite season, everyone? = Which season do you like best?

S2: Spring/Summer... My favorite season is... I like... Best.

S1: Why?

Students: Because spring is warm , it is a good season for flying a kite.

Because summer is hot, we can go swimming.

Because fall is cool, it’s a good time to climb mountains.

Because winter is cold, we can make snowmen in winter./go skating/ go skiing./play snowball games.

S2: Good morning, everyone. Today is Monday, May12th.It’s spring now. But I like summer best. Because it is hot. I can go swimming in the river. What’s your favorite season, everyone?

S: Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter.( My favorite season is…)

S2: Why?

S: Because spring is warm. It is a good season for hiking./Because fall is cool. It’s a good time to climb mountains./Because it is cold in winter. I can make a snowman in winter.

T: Very good. We know there are four seasons in a year? What are they? (spring, summer, fall,winter), Now, let’s chant “The seasons” together.(Spring is green, Summer is bright, Fall is yellow, Winter is white.) Again chant "the seasons" and the students match to mobilize learningatmosphere)

The teaching effect: This link aims to mobilize students' learning initiative, the introduction of chant will also make learning have high emotions.

Step 2  Presentation(time: 5’)

T: Finger out of the window (What’s the weather like today? It’s cloudy.)

T : Look at the pictures , learn some new words. Animation present new words, vivid to let students realize the text of the key, for the next step to interpret the remove barriers and different from traditional boring word teaching!

“What’s this? It’s the sun. When we talk about the unique thing in the world. We usually use the

article word “the” .Yes, when the sun is shining. It is full of light from the sun. So we say it’s sunny today.

cloud: When there are clouds in the sky, it is cloudy.(cloudy weather is dark because the sky is full of clouds.)

windy: Listen, the wind is blowing, when the wind is blowing, it is windy.

snow. When it is snowing, the ground is all white., we say it is snowy today.

rain. When it is raining, it rains a lot, so it is rainy today.

Can you see the building clearly? Yes, very misty because of fog. When there’s fog. it is foggy.

Can you summarize the rules of word formation? How to change the noun forms into adjective forms. ( Let the student summ up noun morphology change adjectives ).

The teaching effect: The cultivation of the students' synthesized and summarized the ability.

Slide4 T : Let’s do some exercises to check the words we learned just now. Put in the missing words. sunny cloudy windy snowy rainy foggy

The teaching effect: To make the students understand sentences, sentences, enhance understanding

Slide 5 T: Look at the pictures in 1b, listen and match the words on the right with the correct pictures.( play the recorder of 1b ) Fill out the numbers you hear on the left. Fill out the letters of the pictures on the right. T: Are you ready? Let’s check the answer together.( time: 3’)

The teaching effect: To cultivate the students' listening and skills.

Step 3  T: You are all very great! Now, let’s come to 1a. Jane and her parents are having a holiday. What’s the meaning of holiday? (It means a period time of rest from work or school. We have two long holidays in a year. Summer and winter holidays, we can have a very great time during the holiday. Right? )

Slide 6 Present 1a, listen and answer the following questions?(time: 3’)

T: What’s Jane doing?

S: She’s making a telephone call.

T: What’s the weather like in the picture?

S: It’s nice and warm.   

T: “Nice and” means” very”. What was the weather like yesterday?

S: It was cloudy.

The teaching effect: Students bring the listening to read more than simple to strengthen the understanding of the students.

Slide 7: Let’s play a game. I need 3 volunteers.(Do game, joy consolidate the review)(time: 3’)

T: Let’s play a game. There are three sections in 1c.

If you have the card with words of section 1, please stand on the left.

If you have the card with words of section 3, please stand on the right.

If you have the card with words of section 2, please stand in the middle.

Now, there are three groups. The first student in Group 1 say the weather yesterday. The first student in Group 2 say the weather today. The first student in Group 3 say what you are doing.

T: The first student of each group, please come to the front of class. Hold up your cards, then make a sentence.
Example:
1It was sunny yesterday. Today is nice and bright. We are making snowmen..
2It was rainy yesterday. It is clod today. We are swimming.
3It was windy yesterday. It is hot today. We are riding a bike.
4Yesterday was snowy. Today is very cool. We are climbing mountains.
5Yesterday was warm. Today is cool. We are flying kites..
The teaching effect: This link in games way, lets the student in the activities of language sense, use the language, at the same time as wide nationality, and enhance the students' learning self-confidence.
Slide 8: Turn to page 80. Let’s come to 2a. Listen , read and say. (View the animation, imitate read three times, and correct pronunciation, intonation.)time: 5’
Slide 9: In this part we’ll learn how to talk about the temperature (the measure of how hot or cold a place or a thing is.) (Degree Celsius./ centigrade).Read it together. Can you read the following temperature in English?
17 We can say seventeen degrees Celsius/centigrade
25 twenty-five degrees Celsius/centigrade
0 zero degree Celsius/centigrade
-1 one degree Celsius below zero or minus one degree Celsius
Slide 10: Let’s do some pair work. Ask and answer two questions: What’s the weather like? What’s the temperature? OK, this group, ask and answer one by one.( Show different weather and temperature, can use two two dialogue, or group of fan-tan way)time: 5’
The teaching effect: To cultivate students' positive cooperation with others, help each other, together complete the task of learning team spirit.
Slide14: Work alone. Look at the weather chant of Toronto and Washington D.C. Then fill in the blanks. (time: 3’)
If you want to know the temperature in New York, how do you ask? Now you are my teachers, I’m your student.
Ss: What is the weather like in New York?
T: It is sunny.
Ss: What’s the temperature?
T: It is between 3and 7.
Ss: What’s the low temperature?
T: It is 3.
Ss: What’s the high temperature?
T: It is 7. Thank you , teachers.
The teaching effect: (The teachers and students interact, enhance the communicative develop.)
Slide15: Part 3. Work alone. Listen to the weather report and fill out the table. (time: 5’)
Slide 16: Weather report . Here is the weather in XX today. If you are the weather reporter, how will you report the weather today?time: 4’)( Groups of four as the weather forecasters, select the best forecasters, report to the class.
Student group discussion, then a representative of Quanzhou weather report today, this link task, stimulate the students' active participation in the desire, that they finish the task in the process of the master to the weather vocabulary.
Slide 17: Part 4 . Class activities.
Are you tired? Now let’s have a rest. Let’s chant the rhyme "The Light Rain." together. (44’’)
Slide 18: Summary.Please summarize what we learned in this class)(time: 3’

1) Finish off Workbook Section B
2) Make a survey. (Survey the weather in our area for a whole week in May, and make a chart. work in groups of seven. Each makes a weather report of one day).
The teaching effect: This kind of practice, open homework, not only can promote the students' practical ability, and to strengthen the students' knowledge and the writing ability.
Example:
S1: Today is Monday. It’s nice and bright. The temperature is from 10 to 27. It’s a good day to work and study at school.
S2: Today is Tuesday. It’s cloudy. It’s hot. The low temperature is 9. The high temperature is 31.It will be rainy this afternoon. If you go out in the afternoon, please take your umbrella.
S3: Today is Sunday. It’s sunny. It will be nice and warm all day. The low temperature is 10.The high temperature is 25. It’s a good time to flying kites
