Step1: Warm-up
(1) Sing the song in Book3: Sing the song.
(2) Dialogue practice:
T: Where is the trash bin? S1: It’s near the table.
T: Where is the picture? S2: It’s on the wall.
T: Where is the lamp? S3: It’s …
Step2: Preview
Prepare a bear before class. Put the bear in different places and ask questions. Where is the bear? The bear is in front of the desk.
Step3: Presentation.
(1) Let’s guess. Draw some frames on the blackboard and stick the pictures of some places in it. Number them. Point at one picture and say: I am in No.1. Please guess what place it is. Is it a zoo/school/park …
(2) Do the game “Let’s guess” again. T: No.3 is a cinema. We can see a film in the cinema. Show a letter and say: I want to post the letter. Shall I go to the cinema? Where shall I go? Yes! Post office. Point at a picture and ask: Is it a post office? Look at the map. The post office is here. Where is the post office in our city?
(3) T: I am not feeling well. Where shall I go? Show the card of the hospital and read, spell. T: Where is the hospital in our town? Is it far? Can I go by bus/taxi/on foot?
(4) Learn the word: science museum.
(5) Show a new which children like it very much. T: I have a new book. I bought it in Xinhua Bookstore. We can buy books in the bookstore. Read the word: bookstore. T: we can buy books in a supermarket/mall, because there are some small bookstores in the supermarket or mall. Read the words: supermarket and mall.
(6) Listen to the tape and repeat.
(7) Let’s start.

Step3: Presentation
(1) Simulative city.
Draw a city on the board and mark some places, such as cinema, hospital, post office, bookstore, library and school. T: The cinema is here. The hospital is next to the cinema. The post office is next to the hospital. Write the phrase “ next to” on the board and read.
(2) T: Is there a cinema near here? S1: No, there isn’t. T: Is there a cinema near here? S2: Yes, there is. T: Where is the cinema, please? S3: It’s next to the hospital. Write the sentences “Where is the cinema, please? It’s next to the hospital” on the board and read.
(3) Words transfer.
(4) Let’s talk. Look at the picture and read the dialogue.
(5) Listen to the tape and repeat, then read.

2. Prepare a Chinese map and ask questions about cities and provinces in China: Where is Jiangxi? It’s east of Hunan. It’s west of Zhejiang. It’s south of Anhui.
3. Divide the Ss into six groups. Give six different word cards to each group: hospital, bookstore, park, post office, cinema and school. The teacher stands in the middle and says: I want to go to the hospital. Where is it? Ss: It’s east of the park. T: How can I get there? Ss: Turn left at the cinema, and go straight. Then turn right at the post office and go straight. It’s on the left.
4. Listen to the tape and repeat.
