The mobile phone is a useful thing, but maybe I don’t know h   1    to use it. Sometimes it makes things difficult for me.
One day I wanted to see my friend nearby. I could a     2   at his house in five minutes, but I looked at my mobile phone and thought i    3    would be better to ring him up. I r    4    him for the first time, but the line was busy. Five minutes later, there was an answer, but it was the wrong number. Then I tried a     5   and this time I got an answer from him.
I asked him if he was at home in the afternoon. And he said---at least I thought he said---he would be at home the w     6  afternoon. So I went to his house, but then I found n   7     in. I called him for the third time. This time I got s   8    angry that I shouted ,“You are not at home? But you just told me over the phone that you would be at home all afternoon!”
Here w  9    his answer,“No, I said:‘I will NOT be at home all afternoon.’”
I went back to my room, sat down in front of the mobile phone and looked at it. What e   10    could I do? Nothing!

There are two main kinds of sports. These two kinds of sports are team sports and individual(个人的)sports. Team sports are such as baseball, basketball and v     1    . Team sports r     2    two separate(独立的)teams. The teams play against each other. They compete against each other in order to get higher s   3     . For example,in a football game, if team A gets 7 points and team B gets 3 points, team A wins the game. Team sports are sometimes c   4     competitive sports.
Besides team sports, there is a     5    main type, or kind, of sporting activity. This is individual sports. In individual sports there are n  6     teams. There isn’t any competition. People play individual sports in order to get exercise. They don’t play individual sports for competition. Generally, they want to get some e   7    , not to win a game. Individual sports are such sports as swimming, skiing, and r    8     .
Of course, it is possible to compete in individual sports. It is possible to keep a score in individual sports. The main difference, however, b 9   team sports and individual sports is that individual sports can be performed alone. Team sports always need more than o 10      person.

All over the world people enjoy sports. Sports help one to keep h  1     , happy, and to live longer. Many people like to watch others play games. They buy t     2   or turn on their TV to watch the games. Often they get very excited when “their” player or team w    3    .
Games and sports often grow out of people’s work and everyday activities. The Arabs use horses or camels in much of their everyday life. They a  4  use them in their sports. Some sports are so interesting that people everywhere like t   5    . Football, for example, is p  6      by more and more young people.
Some sports or games such as running and jumping go back t  7      of years. But basketball and volleyball are rather new. N   8     one is two hundred years old yet. People are inventing new sports or games all the time. Water-skiing is one of the n    9     in the family of sports.
People from different countries may not be able to u   10      each other, but after a game together they often become good friends.

We have been in Australia for three days. We’re having a g  1    time here. Australia is the sixth largest country in the world. There is so m   2    to see that it is impossible for me to tell you everything. Sydney is a beautiful city. There are many big t   3   and beautiful flowers around the houses and they l   4   really beautiful. There are also some special a   5    in Australia, such as kangaroos and koalas. They are really lovely.
During the past three days we’ve visited many p  6    of interest around Sydney. I’d like to spend more time here. But we will f   7   to another city, Cairns, to see coral beds (珊瑚礁) tomorrow. It is said that words cannot d   8    the beauty of the colourful corals. Many famous cartoon films were made there. Now we are b   9    packing our bags so that we will not lose time when we leave. We can enjoy o    10   in Cairns this time tomorrow. I’m looking forward to going there!

At different times in a man’s life, his food has different effects on his body. Among children food quickly changes to the p   1   to run and play games. Most of a young man’s food is spent on g   2     taller. We grow upwards only d    3     the first twenty years of our l   4      , not later. Working men get their strong b   5    from their food; and if they work h  6    , they do not get fat. Office workers eat well and s    7     down a lot, and they may begin to grow fat w   8     they are still quite young. Many older people try to work much and walk often. Perhaps the most d   9    time is when a man reaches sixty years fat will b    10     restful, without much work or interests. This is when food changes quickly to fat.

Mr Brown had an umbrella shop in a small town. People sometimes  b                      him broken umbrellas, and then he took them to a big shop in London. They were  r                        there.
One day Mr Brown went to London by train. He  f         to take an umbrella with him that day. Sitting in front of him was a man with an umbrella standing  b            the seat. When the train arrived in London, Mr Brown  p          up the umbrella as he often did during his journey by train. Just as he was getting off, he was s          by the man. He said angrily, “That’s m           !” Mr Brown’ s face turned red and he gave it back to the man at once.
When Mr Brown got to the big shop, the shopkeeper had got his six umbrellas r        . After a good look at  a            of them, he said, “You’ve mended them very well.”
In the afternoon he got into the train again. The same man was in the same seat. He looked at Mr Brown and his six umbrellas, “You’ve had a l            day,” he said.

These years, with the development of society, more and more teenagers have s        from stress. Some of the problems can make them feel very  w             and unhappy all day. Who can help them? A teacher from a college tried his best to help them. He t            of a lot of ways to help them.  On Monday and Thursday, you can v            him. Here are some ideas how to keep the young men healthier in every way.
F         , it is very important to keep healthy. To get enough sleep every day is also necessary. Try to have a healthy d          . Secondly, maybe you are not the top students. It doesn’t m            . The most important thing is to work hard. If you try your best, your teachers and parents will understand you. If you have some problems, you should be a          to talk with your teachers and parents. They can help you. Remember to s           your happiness and s          with your good friends. Sometimes you can go out for a walk.
In a word, you can try to make you happy by yourselves. I’m sure you can be happy every day.

Life gets noisier every day and very f            people can be free from noise of some kind or another. Whether you live in the centre of a m          city or a village far away , the chances that you will be disturbed by planes, cars, radios, etc. are almost everywhere. We seem to be used to noise, too. Some people feel quite lonely w           background music while they are working.
Tests have s          that total silence can be very frightening experiences. H         , some people enjoy listening to pop music which is very loud, and this can do harm to their ears. The noise level in some places is far a          the usual safety level for heavy industrial areas.
One recent r          about noise said that although a lot of people say that any noise disturbs their attention, only a sudden change  in the level of noise really a         people’s attention. It goes on to say that a background noise, which doesn’t change too much (music, for example) may even help people to pay attention.
People are testing ways to make less noise. There are even laws c            noise. We can’t  r              to the “ good old days ” of peace and quiet. But we can make less noise if we shout loudly enough about it

The Shenzhou VII astronauts Liu Boming, Zhai Zhigang and Jing Haipeng all returned safe and sound at 5:37 pm yesterday afternoon with a solid touchdown in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region. The process was broadcast live o 1      national television.
Spaceship commander and spacewalker Zhai Zhigang told China Central Television shortly after he and his crew were helped out of the re-entry capsule: "It was a glorious mission(使命), f   2     of challenges with a perfect ending. I feel p    3  of our motherland."
The three heroic astronauts will have to wait u   4       this morning before they can return to their homes. Before then, they were arranged for a full night's rest in Hohhot, the c   5  of Inner Mongolia.
Zhai, a 42-year-old astronaut from Heilongjiang Province, got his place in the h   6   books with his 20-minute spacewalk on Saturday. "Greetings to the Chinese people and the people of the world," Zhai said as he floated out of Shenzhou VII slowly . Liu stayed inside the orbital module to assist him w    7  Jing monitored the operation from the re-entry capsule.
President Hu Jintao watched the spacewalk from the Beijing center with a number of other State l  8  . Shortly afterward, Hu told the astronauts in a televised telephone exchange: "Your s   9  represents a breakthrough in our manned space program, the motherland and the people are t  10       to you."

China has decided to take a   1    to stop the use of free plastic bags. S   2   ,shops and outlets(经销店)in China will not be allowed to o   3    plastic bags.

If you don’t use your arms or your legs for some time, they will become weak;when you start using them again, they will gradually(逐渐地)become stronger again. Everybody knows this. Yet many people do not seem to know that it is the s   1     as memory. When someone says that he has a bad memory, he really means that he doesn’t give it enough c  2    to become stronger.
If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we k  3       that it is his own fault. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his p  4    are to blame, and f 5    of us know that it is just his own fault.
Have you e 6    found some people can’t read or write but they usually have better memories? This is b   7   they cannot read or write and they h  8     to remember things; they cannot write them down in a little notebook. They must remember dates, names, songs and stories; so their memoru is the whole time being exercised.
So if you want a good memory, l   9   from these people: p 10       remembering.
