Step 1。Warming up by studying the title of the unit

Hello, everyone! I had a party yesterday. It was my birthday party. Yes, I was born on November 5th, 1972. “was born” is 出生 in Chinese. What about you? When were you born? Let’s find out when you were born.

T: When is your birthday?  S: April 22 T: When were you born?   S: I was born on April 22, 1993.

Now look at this on the board.

sb. + was/ were + born + in + year 某人出生于xxxx年

I was born in 1975. She was born in 1996.

—When were you born? I was born in 1997.

—When was your brother born? He was born in 1999.

Step 2。1a Thinking and listing

T: Do you like sport? I think many of you like it. What sport do you like?  

S: football/ volleyball/ tennis/ table tennis/ basketball

T: Ok! I know you are sports fans. You know a lot about the famous sports stars. Now tell the class about your favorite sportsmen and sportswomen. What sports do they do? What is his/ her nickname? Let’s make a list.

Now go to page 88 to read the four conversations. While reading, try to find all the when questions and their answers. Alsocut/ the sentence into thought groups, students circle all the linking words and underline all the expressions. That’s grammar study, indeed.
