Topic: Unit 1 A healthy body (Part A)      Period: 1st
Teaching Aims:
Using comparatives to talk about physical appearance
Important Points & Difficult Points:
1. Revise the simple past tense and the adjectives learned before.
2. Master the new words.
3. Learn how to express the heights and weights.
Teaching Aids:
Computer, tape recorder, CD ROM
Teaching Steps
I. Warm up
     1. Greetings.
     2. Everyday English: Did you have a pleasant summer holiday? How did you spend it? What did you do?
II. Revision
     1. Revise the past forms of the regular and irregular verbs
     2. Revise the adjectives and their opposites learned before.
III. Presentation
     1. Ask the students to bring photos of themselves from last year and show them to the class. Provide extra photos of people who are obviously tall, short, heavy etc.
     2. (Books closed.) Collect some photos from the students and point to each picture. Tell the students that some of the students in the photos look different now, e.g. Was (Susie) tall? Have the students look at the photo and answer Yes./No, She wasn’t. She was short.
     3. Write the adjectives heavy, light, strong, weak, fast, slow on the board. Show the students how we use them to describe people by miming or pointing to different students in the photos, e.g. (David) was fast. (Bill) was slow.
     4. Introduce cm (centimetre) and kg (kilogram). Tell the students that cm is the measure unit for height or length and kg is the measure unit for weight.
     5. Ask the students to describe themselves in the photos using the adjectives, cm and kg.
     6. Show Transparency. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette and point to each of the picture. Ask the students to repeat after the cassette.
IV. Practice
     1. (Books open.) Show Transparency. Point to each picture. Revise the new words. Read aloud or play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. Ask  the students to repeat the words after you.
     2. Ask the students to work in groups of three. They should role-play the conversation and continue it using the picture cues.
     3. Ask the students to recite the dialogue by themselves. Then the teacher ask some individuals to recite it front of the class.
V. More to do
         Tell the students that the adjectives they have learned can be used to describe people, animals and things. Ask the students to work in groups of three and write as many sentences as they can using those adjectives. They have three minutes. When they have finished, check the sentences together with the students to see which group wrote the most correct sentences.

Homework:
1. Listen to the cassette and read the dialogue at least twenty minutes.
2. Copy the new words and the dialogue once.
3. Do the exercise on page 1 in WB.

Teaching Feedback: “138 cm tall” , “29kg” and “exercise” are difficult for the students to say out, but they are interested in the dialogue.

Teaching Aims:
Using comparatives to talk about physical appearance
Important Points & Difficult Points:
1. Learn the comparative degrees of the adjectives.
2. Learn how to form comparatives of the adjectives.
Teaching Aids:
Computer, tape recorder, CD ROM
Teaching Steps:
I. Warm up
    1. Greetings.
2. Everyday English
II. Revision
    1. Revise the new words and dialogue.
2. Have a dictation
    Dictate the new words and expressions in Part A.
III. Presentation
    1. Write the comparatives of tall, short, heavy, light, strong, weak, fast, slow on the board. Tell the students that the comparatives are used when we talk about an increase or decrease in size, quality, degree etc.
    2. Have some students hold photos and come to the front of the class. They can choose a photo of themselves or a photo that you have provided. Ask them to describe the person in the photo using taller, heavier, lighter, stronger, weaker, faster, slower and the structure Last year, he/she/I was… This year, he’s/she’s/ I’m…
IV. Part B1
    1. (Books open.) Show Transparency.  Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette. The first time, ask the class to listen and follow along in their books. The second time, pause the tape and ask the students to repeat the sentences.
    2. Point to each of the pictures in turn and ask the students to tell you what is happening in each picture.
    3. Ask the students to read the conversation again and circle the correct word for each sentence at the bottom of the page. Have some students read out the sentences for the class to check the answers.
V. Practice
         Get the students to work in pairs. They tell each other about how they are different from last year. Then have their partners report back to the class using (Student’s name) was… last year. This year, he/she is…
VI. Sum up
Homework:
1. Listen, read and recite B1 after the cassette.
2. Copy the conversation once.
3. Copy the adjectives and their comparatives.


Writing: Unit 1 A healthy body (Part B1)

Teaching Feedback:
The comparative degrees of the adjectives is hard for the students. They don’t understand clearly how to form comparatives of the adjectives.


孩子们的作业完成因作业改革中增加了“加分”项目而完成得很好。
书写有明显改善。但三班的学生有部分同学因各种原因需要观察一个星期后,想办法逐渐根治这些同学不合格的写作业习惯。

2. Revise the adjectives and their comparatives.
III. Presentation
    1. Ask a student to come out and stand behind you. Tell the students I’m taller than (student’s name). Write the sentence on the board let the students read the sentence together. Ask them what the meaning of the sentence is.
    2. Explain that when we compare the size, quality, degree, etc. of two people, animals or things, we need to add than after the adjectives.
    3. Have two students of different height come to the front of the class. Ask the other students to describe the two students using taller than and shorter than.
    4. Ask the students to make sentences about different animals they have learned, e.g. cat, dog, horse, rabbit, turtle, monkey, elephant, using stronger than, weaker than, faster than, slower than and heavier than. Write sown the sentences that the students made on the board.
IV. Practice
    1. (Books open.) Show Transparency. Ask the students to read the conversation on the page.
    2. Have the class complete the conversation according to what is shown in the pictures.
    3. Check the answers. Ask some students to read aloud their answers with the whole class.
V. Part B3—Listen and write
    1. Read the rubric to the students. Ask them to look at the picture. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette.
    2. Ask the students to listen to the tape once more to check their answers.
Homework:
1. Read and recite A, B1 and B2.
2. Make at least 10 sentences using  taller than, shorter than, lighter than,
heavier than, faster than, slower than, etc.
3. Do the exercise on page 4 in WB.
Writing:    Unit 1   A healthy body (Parts B2, B3)
                     I’m/You’re/She/He/It is taller/louder/…than…     
Teaching Feedback: The comparative degrees of the adjectives is hard for the students.

Teaching Aims:

    1.  Revise the adjectives and the other new words learned in A, B1, B2 and B3 by asking the students to read and spell them together or one by one.
    2. Revise the conversations in A, B1 and B2 by asking the students to read and recite them.
    3. Have a dictation
        Dictate the adjectives and the other words and some sentences.
III. Part C—A story: The big race
    1. Point to the rabbit and turtle in the picture. Ask the students to tell about their race.
    2. Have the students read the first two paragraphs silently and unaided the first time. Ask the students to guess who will be the winner.
    3. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette for the students and ask them to say the sentences after the cassette.
    4. Say to the students Haley didn’t get to the finish line before Ted. Why? (She was lazy and she fell asleep.)
IV. Part D
    1. Ask the students to read the story again and to number the sentences in the correct order.
    2. Check the answers with the students.
Homework:
1. Read aloud the story and try to recite it.
2. Revise A, B1, B2 and B3.
3. Do the exercises on page 5-6 in WB.

Teaching Steps:
I. Warm up
1. Greetings and everyday English
2. Revision
Revise the new words and the comparatives of adjectives by asking the students to make sentences using the new words and comparatives.
    3. Ask some students to read or recite A, B1, B2 and C.
II. Part E
    1. Write the symbols for the sounds on the board. Write the words from the page under each symbol. Ask the students to tell you other words with the same sounds and add them to the list.
    2. Play the Pupil’s Book Cassette and ask the students to listen to the sounds and the words.
    3. Say the words slowly and clearly. Check that the students are making a distinction between the sounds and pronouncing them correctly.
    4. Point to the pictures and check that the students can say the words without your model.
    5. Play the tape again. Ask the class to listen to the rhyme and join in with the words of the rhyme the second time.
    6. Play the tape. Ask them to listen to words and then write them under the correct symbols.
III. Part F—Fitness
1. Ask the students to study the fitness charts on page 6. The charts show fitness information for four children. Talk with the class about each of the children.
2. Ask the class to fill in the blanks at the bottom of the page according to the information provided in the charts. Check the answers with the class.
3. Have the class turn to page 7. Ask them to work in pairs and talk about either Andrew and Alex or Lily and Julia following the model conversation.
4. Ask the students to imagine that they are the PE teacher. They need to choose a pair of students from page 6 and write a report about them. Tell them to use the format shown on the page when they write the report. Walk around the class and help the students.
5. Tell the class to write a report about themselves using the same format. Ask some students to come to the front of the class and read their report.
Homework:
1. Revise the words and expressions, conversations and comparatives of adjectives in this unit.
2. Do the exercises on page 7 in workbook.
3. Make some sentences using the adjectives they learned and comparatives.

III. Part H—Think about it!
       Explain to the class that ‘metre’ and ‘inch’ are two different units of measure but both of them can be used to measure height and length. Feet (12 inches) and inches are commonly used in the USA. Ask the class to convert the metres to inches to find the answer, i.e. 1.77×39.37inches.The answer is Zheng Fengrong.
IV. Part J—Progress check
    1. Let the class look at the pictures and write the words on the correct line according the meaning of the pictures first. Then check the answers with the whole class.
    2. Ask the class to fill in the blanks with the correct comparatives by themselves first. Then check the answers with the whole class.
Homework:
1. Revise the whole unit.
2. Do the exercise on page 8 in WB.

第一单元反思小结:
这一单元学习速度比较慢,孩子们接受较好。作业书写方面的准确率、 美观性、交作业人数,三个班明显因为加分制度有所改善。英语笔记六二班最好。上课的课堂表现来看,多数学生对比较级的概念和句子反映准确,但不熟练。还有部分同学似乎没有掌握。在第二课的形容词最高级教学中,要注重引导学生感受形容词原级—比较级---最高级概念的生成。
