拳王阿里的少年时代，是在美国肯塔基州路易斯维尔黑人区度过的。他家所在的街道，有一个名叫科基的拳击手，生得虎背熊腰。他仗着一双硬拳头，经常对街上的过住行人敲榨勒索。大家都怯生生地称他是“皇帝”。

阿里长到十六岁的时候，也学了一手好拳术。他看不惯科基的霸道行为，决心和这个小“皇帝”决一雌雄。

这天，阿里和科基在哥伦比亚体育馆摆下了擂台。铃声一响，科基便像犀牛似地冲出来，左一拳、右一拳地乱打一通。然而，他的拳不是落空，就是打偏。相反地，阿里铁球般的拳头却不断地从不同角度打到他的脸上。第一回合结束时，科基已经气喘吁吁，大汗淋漓了。第二个回合，阿里斗志更旺，攻势愈猛。科基东摇西晃，防不胜防，被阿里一拳击中脸部，顿时，眼眶周围出现一片淤黑。科基不敢再战，慌忙爬出绳圈，逃离了体育馆。

当阿里回到黑人区时，那里的居民兴奋地把阿里高高举起，发出一片欢呼声：“‘皇帝’倒了！我们自由了！”
