Teaching plan of Section A Topic 1 of Unit 5,Book8
Beifeng Middle School
Kang Mingwei
I. Analysis of the Teaching Material
1. The importance of this lesson
The function and position of this lesson -- Section A is the first part of Unit 5, Topic 1, which plays a contextual role. There are not only some past relevant knowledge presentations, but also a few new language items running through the whole topic.
2. What to teach -------- teaching contents:
This lesson is composed of three parts.
① Review and learn some new adjectives about personal feelings.
② Learn how to master the structure of Linking verb +adj.
③ Learn to practice conversations about expressing personal feelings.
3. The focus and difficult points in this lesson: Learn how to use the structure of linking - verb + adj. and learn to catch the meaning of some familiar topics about personal feelings and get the main information.
II. Analysis of the Teaching aims:
1. Knowledge aims: Make conversations familiarly using the structure of linking – verb + adj.
2.Ability aims:
① Develop the Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
② Using the useful structure to develop the Ss’ abilities of communications by gestures and expressions.
3.Emotional aims:
① Enable Ss to understand other’s personal feelings.
② Enable Ss to cooperate each other to finish some projects.
III. Analysis of the students:
The Ss have learned some adj. about personal feelings. Besides it, they have learned English for one and a half years. So I think Ss are familiar to some goal languages and my teaching methods. It is not difficult for them to understand the difficult points in this lesson.
IV. Analysis of the Teaching methods:
1. I will adopt multi-media equipment, a recorder and other means.
2. I will play the role of director and helper.
3. I will let Ss do pair work and group work to finish some projects by themselves
V. Analysis of the Teaching process:
Step1 Organization and review
1.Exchange greetings with the students
T: Good morning.               S: Good morning.
T:I feel happy. How about you?    S: I feel happy/upset today.
2.Review some adj. about personal feelings by showing the slide like this:
happy,  excited,  sad,  upset,  angry,  silly,  worried,  afraid,  active,  lucky

And ask Ss to read the adj. together. And then show some pictures and ask Ss to fill in the blanks about personal feelings in oral.
I think this step can warm up the class environment. It’s easy for Ss to fill in all the blanks in oral. This step is good for them to remind of the language materials they have learned. It also can arouse the Ss’ interest to learn this lesson.
Step2. Presentation
1. Let the students listen to the tape about Section A Part 1 and guess the meanings of the key words and expressions underlined:
Because the Ss have previewed the words and the text, it’s not difficult for most Ss to guess the meanings of the words and the expressions. And Ss may find it interesting to guess them.
2. Play the flash of Section A part 1. Let Ss listen and answer the following questions:
① How do Kangkang and Michael feel ?  He feels___________
② What do Kangkang’s parents want to do ?  They want to _________to go the movies.
③ Why will they say thanks to Kangkang’s Mom?  His mom  _____________.
3. I’ll show some key points of sectionA.1 on the screen and explain them .
4.And then ask Ss watch the flash again and read the dialogue three times. Give them five minutes to practice the dialogue in pair. At last ask three or four pairs to act it out in class.
By this way, the Ss get further practice of the dialogue. I think they may feel a little difficult to practice the dialogue. So I explain the key points of Section A, Part 1 to help Ss to understand the dialogue better. This step can also lead the Ss to Section A 3a.
Step3. presentation & practice
1. Ask Ss to listen to the tape of 3a and mark T (true) or F(false) :
(    )1.The children and Mr. Lee meet in the morning.
(    )2.The children are sad.
(    )3.The name of the movie is Kangfu.
(    )4.Mr Lee has the tickets to the movie.

2. Let Ss watch the flash of 3a and answer the following questions:
① Kangkang, Michael , Maria and Jane are happy. Why all the smiling faces?
They’re going to spend the evening at Kangkang’s house.
② How does Mr. Lee feel? Why?
He feels disappointed, because he didn’t get the ticket to the movie.
③ Can you guess how does the music sound? It sounds wonderful/beautiful/nice.
3. Let Ss read 3a and finish 3b and encourage Ss to fill in the blanks as many adjectives as possible. Give Ss some suggestions if necessary.
I think it’s important to emphasis the adjectives about expressing personal feelings and deepen the impression of the adj. It’s the foundation of the next step.
4. Ask Ss to watch the flash of 3a again and give them five minutes to act the dialogue out in roles. If Ss like, they can change the content of the dialogue without changing the main structure.
5.Ask Ss to do pair work according to the six pictures by using the following dialogue and ask two or three pairs to act it out in class
① S1: How does she/he feel?         ② S3: How you they feel?
S2: She / He feels happy.               S4: They feel active.
6. Help Ss make a conclusion about the structure of Linking - verb +adj.
7.Let Ss do Section A Part 2. Look and describe the six pictures with suitable adj. and then check the answers. Ss may discuss with their partners if they can’t work it out by themselves.
After practicing, I think the students are more familiar to the structure of Linking verb +adj. I think it’s much easier for them to understand the difficult points of this lesson. Ss can further learn to use the language to communicate with others.
Step4 Project
Ss are divided into ten groups. They are supposed to do Group Work. Discuss and describe Ji Gong and the rich landlord using the structure of Linking verb +adj. according to the pictures and words. Ss can begin like this: Ji Gong is poor, but he is happy. The rich landlord is rich, but he feels lonely.
And then ask two or more groups to make a report in class.
I think it creates a very real language environment. Let Ss know how to use the key structure as well. Learn to use the language to communicate and cooperate with others. I think it’s just my teaching purpose.
Step5 Summary
1. Master the structure of linking – verb + adj. like this: He feels sad.
2.Learn how to practice the conversations about expressing the feelings like SectionA1
It gives Ss the clue of the whole lesson and help Ss understand the difficult points of the lesson much better.
Step6 EX
Ask Ss fill in the blanks with adj. according to the meanings of the sentences. Give the Ss some minutes to do it in class and ask some Ss to write down their answers and then check up the answers.
I think it’s time to further train their writing after the variety practice. This exercise helps the Ss understand the goal language more clearly.
Step7. Homework
1. Review Section A  Using the structure of linking – verb + adj. to write a composition about Ji Gong and the rich landlord.
2. Preview Section B  Find out the adjectives about personal feelings.
Review the whole lesson and preview Section B by practicing and writing so that Ss can find out they couldn’t understand or they miss in class. It can also intensify their basic skills and train their good study habits.
