一、   Teaching aims
1、Knowledge aims:
(1)       Be able to recognize the words: tall、short、old.
(2)       Be able to recognize the new words: taller、shorter、older、younger、stronger、than.
(3)       Be able to understand the text.
(4)       Be able to say the sentences “____ is taller/shorter/older/younger/stronger than ____.”
2、Ability aims:
Be able to apply the sentences “____ is taller/shorter/older/younger/stronger than ____.” to compare and describe the differences between two people.
3、Moral aims:
(1) After the class, the students can understand if they do more exercises and refuse the junk food, they will be taller、stronger and more healthy.
(2) The students can find their differences between others, and can show themselves bravely.
(3) The students will keep being interested in English learning.

二、 Teaching key & difficult points
1、Be able to listen and say the words: taller、shorter、older、younger、stronger.
2、Be able to apply the sentences “____ is taller/shorter/older/younger/stronger than ____.” to compare and describe the differences.

三、 Teaching aids
1、CAI
2、word cards: taller、shorter、older、younger、stronger、than
3、presents: stickers

四、Teaching procedure
Step1 Warming up
1、Greetings
2、Introduce the assessment.
3、Sing a song 《Follow me》
T and students sing the song together, and then give one point to the best group to motivate the students.
Purpose: Through the warm greetings and the song, students can be active and sustain a good emotion. It is a good beginning of the class.
4、Game: I do & You guess
T does the actions, then the students should try to say out the adjectives as fast as they can.
Purpose: In this part, students review the adjectives quickly to make a foundation for the further learning.

Step2 Presentation
1、younger/older
T: Oh, look! It's Melody. Say "hello" to Melody , OK?
Ss: Hello, Miss Zeng.
T: Do you know how old I am? Let's see! It's 37! I'm young.
(drill the word "young")
T: Look! They are you! How old are you? Good, that boy, you please!
Boy: I'm 11.
T: 11? You are young. And you are younger than me!
(drill the word "younger"、"than")
T: So, we can say …
Ss: We are younger than Melody .
T: Now, look! Wow, a baby. It’s young. Are you younger than the baby?
Ss: No.
T: No, you are old. So we can say we are older than the baby.
(drill the word "older")
( T asks some Ss to make a comparison, and other Ss should describe the comparison with the key sentences.)
2、taller/shorter
        T: Now, let’s look at the screen. These two trees are tall. Now, I want to give you a surprise. Look, “taller、taller…”
        (drill the word "taller")
T: So we can say …
Ss: B is taller than A.
T: Now, look! The trees are not tall. They are short. Let’s see what will happen! “shorter、shorter…”
(drill the word "shorter")
T: So we can say …
Ss: B is shorter than A.
( T asks some Ss to make a comparison, and other Ss should describe the comparison with the key sentences.)
3、strong/stronger
        T: Now, let's see. Wow, Xiyangyang is strong.
(drill the word "strong")
        T: Look! But Feiyangyang is stronger than Xiyangyang.
(drill the word "stronger")
        T: Who is stronger in our class?
        Ss:
        T: Ok. Come here. Who wants to have a competition with him? Good boy, come here. …Other                     
         students, you should say "stronger、stronger", understand? Are you ready? Ok, let's go!
        T: So, we can say…
        Ss: ______ is stronger than ______.
        4、Can you find the differences?
        5、Let's chant!
Purpose: With the help of the CAI and the word cards, the teacher teaches the students the new words in various ways. It’s funny to say a chant with the help of the gestures. And it’s also useful to help the students understand the key points better, avoiding tire.

Step3 Text learning
1、Listen and underline the words with "er"
2、Listen again and try to answer the following questions:
(1) Who’s taller?   A  Amy    B  Lingling
(2) Who’s younger?   A  Sam    B  Daming
(3) Who’s stronger? A  Sam   B  Lingling
3、Check the answers
4、Listen and repeat
Purpose: Before the first listening, the students should underline the words with "er"to consolidate the key words; before the second listening, the students should read the questions quickly. Having been provided the questions, the students will listen to the CD-Rom more carefully. It’s necessary to ask the students to repeat the text to consolidate the knowledge.

Step4 Practice
1、Game time: Can you open the door?
The students should use the tips applied on the screen to open the door.
Purpose: With the guessing, the students are motivated. Further, the teaching key and difficult points can be consolidated again.
2、Work in groups
The students in the groups talk about the differences between others.
Then, the teacher asks some to have a show.
Purpose: The students can find their differences between others, and can show themselves bravely.

Step5 Summary
1、Let the students know if they do more exercises and say “no” to the junk food, they will be taller、stronger and more healthy.
2、Make a brief summary and congratulate the winners.
Purpose:Help the students to know that exercises and good eating habits make themselves taller、 stronger and more healthy.
