Once upon a time, there were two legendary figures in Chinese mythology, Chang'e and Hou Yi.

Chang'e was a beautiful goddess who lived in the heavenly palace, but she became lonely and unhappy because she had no one to talk to. One day, she decided to come down to the mortal world and enjoy the scenery. It was there that she met Hou Yi, a skilled archer who was known for his bravery and courage.

Hou Yi and Chang'e fell deeply in love and were married soon after. However, their happiness was short-lived when the earth was threatened by ten suns that had risen at once, causing chaos and destruction. Hou Yi, determined to save the world, used his archery skills to shoot down nine of the suns, leaving only one in the sky.

As a reward for his bravery, the Queen Mother of the West gave Hou Yi a potion of immortality. However, Hou Yi didn't want to leave Chang'e alone, so he gave the potion to her for safekeeping. But one day, a jealous apprentice of Hou Yi tried to steal the potion from Chang'e, and in her haste to protect it, she drank it herself and floated up to the moon.

Since then, Chang'e has lived on the moon, accompanied only by the jade rabbit and a woodcutter. Hou Yi, heartbroken by the loss of his wife, would often gaze up at the moon and offer sacrifices to her. The story of Chang'e and Hou Yi has been passed down for generations and remains a beloved tale in Chinese culture.
